PARLIAMENTARY GOSSIP.

[By Telegraph.]

(FROM OUK SPECIAL COBRESPONDENT.) Wellington. This day. Very little political news is current. Yesterday's afternoon sitting was devoted to the debate as to whether the petition received from some natives at Whirimiki should be received, owingj to it containing the following threat. If the court is not opened, or our names are not placed upon the Crown Grant for this land, and you do not consider our words, we will take up arms against the people whose names are in the Office at Auckland, and it is possible that some one may be killed by us.

The Colonial Secretary last night received the following telegram from Sydney, July Bth.—A case of small-pox has been discorered to-day, at Glebe, a suburb of Sydney. In connection with this matter the Government recognised the gravity of the situation, and taking into consideration the original source of the present outbreak of the disease in Sydney, have proclaimed Hong-Kong and all Chinese ports infected.
