The House met at 2.30
Mr Jones presented two petitions from 40 and 45 unemployed in Waitaki district, asking the Government to give them work.
Mr Stewart gave notice to ask the Government why the names of certain telegraph operators were sent to Australian Governments, and if any replies had been received from such Governments.
Dr Wallis to move in favor of Hare's system Jof representation ; and that no Licensing Bill would be satisfactory which did not provide for compensation in the case of licenses being taken away through local option. Sir G. Grey to ask if it was intended to establish a School of Mines at the Thames; also to move on Thursday for leave to introduce a bill to provide for a better systemjof Local Government. In reply to Dr Wallis, Mr Hall said the Government were carefully consider* ing the propriety of restoring the leasehold and ratepaying franchise.
