Qvs, contemporary, is rather late in giving advice to our Harbour in the matter referred to in its leading article of this day. , The t facts of the case are that it was from the Thames Harbour Board that the suggestions emanated, they, in the first place, Being sent to the Auckland; Board, and from there reaching the Chamber of Commerce. Honor to whom honor; is doe, and Mr Dean mainly is deserving of the credit, for his are the suggestions, and the Harbor Board, at his solicitation, accepted his views, and agreed to send them on to Auckland. . In fact, Mr Dean mentioned the subject 18 months ago to the then Harbour Board, but the members at that; time did not see the force of the suggestion, and it Was only in March last that it was determined to forward the suggestions to the Auckland Board and ask for their co-operation.' Many months ago in these columns we referred to the necessity there existed for an alteration in the Act, and the late election by the Borough Council forcibly called the attention of the community .to the urgency of the case. We shall be pleased to see a number of amendments made in the Act, and believe that some of the Auckland members will be requested to introduce an amended bill giving the ratepayers at large, instead of the payers of certain port charges and the local bodies, the right of electing the members of Harbour Boards.
