OUR MINES.

OLD GOLDEN CALF,

The contractors driving at No. 3 level continue to make good headway, though the lode is in the same condition as when last reported—seams of quartz alternated with mullock and gritty quartz. A few pounds of picked stone come to hand daily from tho, stopea at No. 2 level. The reef as it goes seems to be getting rid of its abnormal underlie, which will enable a larger output of quartz. The weekly output at preseut is 50 tons, and the working staff is about 20 hands. NEW GOLDEN CROWN. At the battery level,,the winze on No, 1 leader is now sunk to a depth of 54 feet below the level; from 10 to 15 feet more sinking should meet the rise coming from the 100 feet level. In the winze, the leader averaged about 18 inches in thicknes, and Shows a little gold occasionally with good &c. Herival's leader: All work has been suspended here for the present, and part of the men have been removed to intermediate level, with a view of opening up a leader running to the north-east of footwall leader. This will prove,a payabe block. Footwall leader at battery level: The manager has repaired the drive along the course of No. 1 main reef for a distance of eighty feet and at this, point has started a crosscut to intersect the footwatl leader on the north boundary, which will be completed in a few days, when crushing from this leader will be resumed 100 feet level: In the drive along the course of ftfo. 1 battery level Icador, at this level, but little progress has been made during the week, as the ground is tight, also the leader is ssplit into two separate veins, with 4ft of sandstone between, which necessitated a large drive fully 6ft wide, consequently slow progress is made ; the leader on the footwall side is very promising and in breaking down ou Monday it showed a

little gold. From present appearancas these leaders should junction soon. The stopes on No. 2 leader are being pushed forward, but with no change since my last report, the quartz, so far, being of low grade. 40 feet level: There is nothing fresh to report from this level since my last, a good supply of quartz coming to hand. 170 feet level: The contractors at this level have met with considerable improvement, the ground being much softer, and also the reef more compact, showing good minerals and other indications. The manager intends having a trial crushing put through from here. during the coming week. GOLD KETUEim - > . Jokeb.—A crushing for Adams and party jielded 7ozs 15dwts g01d...—.
