Monday. The Address in Reply. It has been decided that Mr Fulton, M.H.K. for Taieri, is to second the Address in Reply to-morrow in the House of Representatives. It is understood that Messrs Brogden and Sons have filed a petition of right in the Supreme Court, with the view of bringing their claims against the colony to trial. The total amount claimed is £256,764. At a meeting of the delegates of local bodies to day, the following resolution was agreed to :—" That the 11th clause of the Land Act Amendment Act, 1879, should be repealed, so that the whole half-yearly instalments on deferred payment lands should be handed over to the County Councils for road making within the block dealt with, as provided in the Land Act of 1877. This day.. The few remaining Maori prisoners who were in custody were yesterday embarked on board the steamer Stella at Hokitika, and will he landed to-night at Opunake, New Plymouth. The Dunedin Industrial Exhibition opens to morrow. The police seized four casks of beer which was being sent from Speight and Co. to Dobsuu at Port Chalmers. Three of .the casks Were without beer stamps, ank the other cask was stamped, but the stamp had not been cancelled.
