Wesleyan Home Missions.
A meeting in connection with the above was held at the Shortland 'Wesley an Church last evening. There was but a moderate attendance. Ihe proceedings were opened by the Rev. W. J. Watkin, who presided. He quoted from the statistics of the Australian Methodist connection showing the mission work doce during the year. He said that the work had been somewhat retarded daring the past year in a monetary point of view, fierce hurricanes having swept over, many of the groups and curtailed the resources of the inhabitants, which had had the effect of reducing their contributions. The Rev. R: Laishley then delivered an interesting address on the spread of Christianity. The moral and religious condition of France and Germany has been greatly improved of late by the introduction .of the Bible, and in China and India the progress of Truth had been enormous. With reference to the work of the British and Foreign Bible Society, he said that the Word of God was now translated into 230 languages. After short addresses from the Rev. Mr Watkin and Mr Harris, the meeting terminated.
