CALEDONIAN.

_ The manager has taken adrantage of the Visit of Mr Jobson, inspector of boilers «> give the engine an overhaul. Ohe inspection of the boilers took place this morning and a start will be made tomorrow. Since I wrote last, a reef has been cut in the crosscut, at Wo. I level. It is probably 15 or 16 feet in thickness and may turn out to be the No. 1. No gold has yet been seen in Herival's leader. The manager's report for the past week is as follows: — "The hanging wall of ieef Ko. 1 level crosscut waß met with, yesterday. The reef is fully 14 feet in thickness, carrying good indications throughout. There is from two to three feet of rubbly quarlz lying on the back of it. Whether tins will turn out to be No. 1 reef I cannot yet form any idea, as it will take pretty much of next week to square up the quartz to the hangingwall. The men are still sinking the winze at No. 3 level, in the same class of country. I shall takedown the reef in this winze the end of next week. The men on Herival's leader are making good headway with the -dme. The leader averages 7 inches in thickness, and is composed of gritty qttarfz and clay mixed; no gold ha ? been seen in it yet. I shall get a trial from these three places as soon as possible. The boiler inspector will inspect pur boiler on Wednesday next, and the engine will have to be overhauled at the same time, which will take three days." KUSAISUI HILL. : The battery finished crushing today. When crushing was first commenced, it was proposed to keep it going the whole three shifts, but this was discovered to be unexpedient, the blanketing accumulating too quick for the berdan'sV The company will probably retort to morrow.

NEW NORTH DEVON.

A little gold was seen in the rise from the 160 feet Wei yesterday. There must be some good gold in this block, as the gold obtained on the floor of the 70 level did not go up, and it is scarcely likely it would run for such a length without likewise extending either upwards or downwards.
