AUCKLAND.

"Unfortunate to the Last.
The steamer Taupo, when being towed by the Wellington to Auckland, filled and sank 17 miles outside of Tauranga. A stiff breeze was blowing at the time. It is supposed that some gear below gave way. The men on board had barely time to escape, ; end lost everything. ; The vessel was cased irfa wooden sheathing, which was secured by chains, which it is believed gave way.
The City Council Office has been broken into and £30 stolen from the safe.
Hesketh's resolutions before the Gram* mar School Board to rescind the adverse resolutions carried by the Board at 1 a former meeting re the Head Master were rejected—Hesketh only voting for them.
