COHOMANDEL.
Three very important finds have been made in this district duriug the-month. The first, in the Success; the manager having intersected the leader after a long spell of very hard driving, proceeded to drive on it, and in a very few feet came upon some extraordinary rich stuff, in fact almost pure gold. Siuce theu, several
patches of the same class of stuff has been taken out. The general stone is also very rich. Blackmore's: This mine was the next to make a very important discovery. This was made by Mr Bennett endeavoring to trace the No. 1 reef into Barrett's lease, when he suddenly came <upon an unknown reef, some two feet thick, containing rich gold. A good parcel was taken out, all more or less gold bearing. Some very fair general stuff has been taken out from the No. 1 reef from the low level, and it still looks. very well*. There is very little doubt that large quantities of good crushing material will" be got from this reef.
Tiernan's: This claim also made a very - important find in the low level a few days since. For several weeks-, work in this level has been in abeyance, pending'the completion of the purchase.. This having been accomplished, work was resumed, and some very rich stono taken out on Wednesday last?;' The claim is now to be-, formed into a company, and the work will be prosecuted with vigour. Perseverance.—This claim has just" been v formed into a company, and great, things are expected from" it. The ground is full of reefs, several of which been thoroughly prospected, *?nd good payable*-' stone got in several, with occasional patches of specimens. An attempt will be made to get a few tons sent to'the battery as soon as possible, which, however is rather difficult, from the position of the mine. The country is firsfc-class, and the reef very easily worked. > Tokatea.—The low level drive 1 is .going in with great speed. The country, is splendid working ground. The reef als«" has improved a great deal, but up to the present no gold has been seen in the ree£" However, they are still a long way from; the boundary, and the probability is that . the gold dips westerly, following the big resf.
Union Beach.—The manager is now confining operations to prospecting the surface portion oi the mine. Two cross-, cuts are being driven from the road level. In the one to the west a very small leader was cut showing fgojd,- bat nothing of any amount has been got. —Herald.
