OLD GOLDEN CALF.
Yesterday afternoon the drive at the No. 2 level tapped the lode eastward of the slide, and to-day it was cut into. It lies very flat, so that a day or two will be occupied in the intersection. The quartz looks exceedingly well, aud some fine splats of gold were seen in the stone. Apart from the immediate importance of the discovery, there is a secondary consideration, which will in all probability materially affect the future ot the mine. Various attempts, it will be remembered, have from time to time been made to pick the trans-slide continuation of the No. 2 (Caledonian) and Young American reefs. Theic whereabouts has always been a mystery. Mr Crawford having demonstrated the correctness of his theory respecting one reef cut off by the slide, there is not the. slightest doubt but the other lodes will be cut in the same principle. Two men continue rising at the No. 3 level, and gold is seen frequently. The rise is now up a distance of twenty-five feet. NEW WHAU. The crushing is showing up for a yield better than 2ozs per ton, and as there is 7Olbs of picked stone on hand with the j prospect of more, there should be a good average yield. In the stopes the lode increases in size going up. ALBUJEtNIA.. A crushing of lOOlbs of specimen stone for Christie and party produced the excellent yield of 83ozs odwts gold. A start has been made to crosa-cut for the Star of the South lode from the 70 feet level. The distance to drire will be trifling. COLUMBIA.
