This day,
A fatal accident occurred at Kaiwara last night. An old settler at Tawa Flat named Peekham, a carter, was driving home from town, and had to ford the Kaiwara stream: (the bridge being under repair). He, however, mistook the road to the ford, and is supposed in attempting to turn, the horse and cart slipped over the embankment. Tho cart was discovered by two men, and on search bfcing made, Peekham was found underneath, life being extinct. He leaves a wife and a large family. An inquest will be held. Monday. The whole of the evidence taken before the commissioners of the Asylum Inquiry is under the consideration of the Government, with a view to prosecute every person connected with the Asylum against whom a prima facie case is disclosed by the evidence.
