Calcutta, April 18,
A telegram has been received from Kandahar that the evacuation of the city by the British Garrison has commenced. The report is current, however, that although the troops will be withdrawn from Kandahar, several British regiments will permanently occupy Chamau the Risteen Valley. London, April 16. Arrived: Steamship Cuzco, from Australia ; ship Hermione, from Wellington, left January 1; Rangitikei, from Lyttelton, left January Bth. Athens, April 16.
A large meeting of the people took place here today, in consequence of the action of Government in accepting the proposals lately made by thr Porte for the settlement of the frontier question. The matter was discussed in excited language, and speeches were made denouncing the policy of the Government. The agitation is increasing throughout the country.
