AUSTRALIAN.
Melbourne, This day. In the Legislative Assembly last night a message was received from the Council asking that a committee should be appointed to consider the Reform Bill. Mr Berry stated that he agreed to the suggestion, and proposed himself, Messrs Longmore, Mirams, Pearson, Tucker, Vale, Grant, and the leader of the Opposition as members of the committee. Sir John O'Shannessy energetically protested against the selection, but upon a ballot being taken it was, however, confirmed. Mr Berry, in the course of the debate, stated that he could only make a small concession to the Council. The committee from the Council will consist of Sir Uhas. j Sladen and Messrs Cuthbert, Hearn, Reid, Fitzgerald, Balfour, and Mcßain. The joint committee is not expected to succeed in bringing about an understanding on the question of reform.
