Tb3 Auckland Herald . states that the honorable member for Newton, Mr William. Swaneon is to be made a peer for life, a lord of the Colony. We.doubt the assertion, as, from all trrsDunta, Mr Swanaon is sick and weary of political life. Had it been' stated that Wm. John Hurst had coveted the honor, and even asked it for his paat services it ■would not surprise us ; but to think that Mr Swanson would permit himself to be nominated to a body which he holds ia such contempt- and to be classed as one of the governing families, is ipore than we can comprehend. The present; Ministry b^ye, done some very strange things, and perhaps they mean to go on perpetuating them. ;
A bright litthv.hoy, who had been engaged in combat' with another boy, wa3 reproved by his aunt, who told him he ought always to wait until the other boy " pitched upon him." " Well.'' exclaimed the little hero, "but if I w^it for the other boy to begin, I'm afraid there won't be any "fight."
