We are compelled to again refer to the unseemly conduct of Hi 3 Worship the Mayor in his mode of conducting public business. The position taken up by the Mayor last night showed him in a far worse light in the matter of the Harbor Board election than we had at first believed. We were inclined to ascribe his obstinancy to his gross stupidity, but it transpired at last night's meeting that there was an undercurrent that at first did not come to the surface. It will be remembered that the Mayor nominated Cr Osborne as one of the Council's representatives, the latter gentleman only getting one vote, which Cr Wilson asserts was recorded by him. How comes it therefore that the Mayor of Thames should so far forget the dignity of his office as to stoop to the petty falsehood made use of last night, when he stated he had voted for Cr Osborne. It is now apparent why liis Worship insisted on conducting the election by ballot. The stand taken by the Mayor last evening was most undignified all through the discussion, referred to, and especially was it unfair to put it to the Council that if a resolution was carried he would resign his olfice of Mayor, and afterwards voting for such a motion, which of course if carried absolved him from exercising the alternative threatened.
