High School.

A meeting of the Governors of the above institution was held yesterday afternoon. His Worship the Mayor, W. Wilkinson, Esq., presided, and there were also present—Messrs Bagnall, Brodie, Speight, Marshall, Ehrenfried, and Dr Kilgour. The minutes of the last meeting were read aud confirmed. A telegram was read from the Treasury to the effect that £6 5s had been paid to the Board for the education of Miss Nahe. A letter was read from Mr Barlow advising that gymnastics should form j part of the education, and offering to hold drill half a day a week, for £5 ss. Mr Brodie said it was very necessary 1 that the boys should be drilled. The way they walked when in tbe street was most slouching. He proposed that Mr Banow be informed that there were no funds at present, but thought that Mr Barlow should be asked to give an hour's drill to the boys for nothing.

Mr Speight proposed that they should send an answer to Mr Barlow, stating that the Board recognised the necessity for a course ot instruction indicated by him, but that they had no fundß to obtain; it at present.—Carried. The Headmaster's report was read, and, on the motion of Mr Brodie, was received. With regard to the question of a recreation ground, a resolu ion was carried to the effect that Mr Hall be thanked for his offer, putting his lawn at tiie disposal of the girts of the High' School during certain hours of the day, and that lis offer be cheeriully accepted. It was decided to authorise the headmaster to purchase whnt chemicals, etc,, were necessary lo teach the science oi' chemistry. This concluded the business.
