Reception of the Carbine Champion.
PEOPOSED BALL.
A largely attended meeting of the Thames Naval Brigade was held last evening for the purpose of determining on some means of welcoming back Carbine Champion Armstrong and the local shooting representatives. Lieut. Lawless presided. It was unanimously agreed to give a ball at the Academy of >Tasic on St. Patrick's Eve. The reception of the representatives at the wharf was left to the meeting of officers. The following were appointed a committee to carry out arrangements: —Lieuts. Gavin, Lawless, and Burton, together with Seamen Josiah P. Carter, Truscott, C. Short, LeTissier, Walter Walker, and Bandsman E. Feeney. The indefatigable paymaster to the Brigade, Mr W. H. Potts, will fulfil the onerous duties of secretary to the Committee. The Ball is likely to be a grand success, and already we hear of the ladies indulging in bright anticipations concerning it.
