Cricket.

Mr C. E. MacCormick, hon. secretary of the Auckland United Cricket Club> has sent a challenge to the Thames Cricket Club to play them at Parawai on Saturday next. The Auckland team will leave Auckland on Friday evening next by the Enterprise, and will arrive here in the early morning. Mr T. Lawless, with that innate indefatigableness which distin. guishes him,, has made arrangements for the •best team obtainable to meet the visitors. The names of those gentlemen who are to do battle for the respective sides will appear in a future issue. In the meanwhile, I would earnestly impress cricketers such as Messrs Steedman, Gelliou, Buttle, Burgess, iSpeocer,

Smith (Waitoa), G. Smith, Law, Hunter, Harrison, Lawless, Parsons, Crump, Webber, Weston, Jeffrey, iJayldon, and others, the necessity that exists for hard practice, in order that each one will efficiently carry out the duties alotted to him. A practice match was to be held at Parawai this afternoon. The ground has not had the attention paid to it this season, I am sorry to say, that should have been, and now it will be requisite to put the same thoroughly in order, and get the wicket in the same condition that previous visitors have credited us with always having, being the best in the province of Auckland.

Long Off.
