OUR MINES.
OLD GOLDEN CALF,
Since my last nothing of importance has occurred in connection with the operations of this company at the No. 2 level. A little gold is to be seen and the lode bears all the favourable characteristics already referred to. Yesterday wag employed in measuring u,p thp contractors' work, the manager considering it desirable that for the present the work should be prosecuted by wages men. The latter started work this morning.
CUBE. In this mine drives are pushed ahead on Gilmour's leader and the No. 5 lode towards the Manakau boundary. Th,eße reefs are expected to', junction Within 10 or 1§ feet' pf the boundary, and the present operations besides opening up a block of ground which should be payable, will materially conduce to the efficient ventilatiou of this portion of the mine. The manager intends to stope on the block on Gilmour's leader first, it bearing the most promising appearance. This lead in the drive is about 10 inches in thickness, and occasional colors of gold are to be met with.
