The cricket match, Canterbury v. ! Otago, commenced yesterday. Christchurch won the toss and went to the wickets and when the stumps were drawn bad lost 7 wickets for 323 runs. Maiden Plate.—-Sir Garnet 1, Cassevelaunas filly 2, Miss King 3. Fire. A four roomed brick house in Dundas Street owned by Paul Sharley and occupied by Fred. S. Nicholls a journalist was totally destroyed by fire last night. Sharley is insured for £250 in the National 'and Nicholls for £150 with the South British but the loss is considerably over those amounts. The fire is supposed to have arisen from the ash bucket.
