HOPEFUL.
The mine manager reports on the 14th instant: —" I am pleased to inform you that I have come upon gold in the new level tunnel. I believe it is the same run of gold as was worked on the No. 2 level some years ago. It is not very rich as yet, but I think the stone coming from the same payable, as each breaking down shows colours with nice little splats of gold in the solid sione. I have about lOlbs of picked stone from the same. The reef continues about the same thickness as stated in my last week's report. The ground is still tight for working, only 12 feet have been driven the past week. I have started to-day a winze from the No. 2 levd, as I am anxious to open up a block of ground as speedily as possible, which I think will prove a good payable block. In the No. 2 level, the drive on the mundic vein has been carried on on the wrong vein, as this morning I discovered the main one bearing into the right.—E. Howse."
