Large Fire.
This day.
A destructive fire occurred on Sunday, which destroyed R. Hudson's flour mill bakery, and biscuit factory behind, as also the new Coffee Palace and premises known as the old Masonic Hall, near the Cutting. Nothing is yet known as to the origin of the fire. The following are the insurances :—On building, £2000, in the Standard; on Coffee Palace, £1000, in the Victoria, £1000 in the Standard, and £150 in the Uevr Zealand ; on plant and stock, £500 in the. Colonial and £250 in the Colonial ; on plant, £250 in the Colonial and £750 in the South British ; on stock, £500 in the South British ; on machinery, £750 in the New Zealand; total, £6150. Damage to Coffee Palace building is estimated at £1000. Hudson's loss is heavy.
