St. John's Church, Tararu.

The soiree and concert in aid of the funds of the above Church took place last evening in the Tararu day school. About 170 persons sat dowu to tea, Mr Porgie catering in his well known style. Trays were provided by the following ladies :— Mesdames Fricker, Wolff, Poulgrain, Wells, Hollis, Messrs John Wilson, Rea, Joy, Darrow, R. Wilson, S. Fisher, A. Fisher, Comer, Ellis, P. Bennett, Weston, Godkin, and Dennerly. After tea, and the removal of the tables, the concert commenced, Mr H. 0. Lawlor,

the Lay Eeader of the district, occupying the Chair. i

The Chairman congratulated, those present on the successful issue of the soiree, and then called upon Mr C. G. Brown for a sods;, entitled " True; to the Last," which was well applauded.—Mr Gr. N. Phillip? then gave a readiris; from Pickwick; entitled " Bob Sawyer's'Snpper Party," which may be fairly said jo have brought down the house.—Mrs kackay and Miss Day sang a duet, " Oh, rould I Teach," and in response to a well deserved encore rendered " The Land-o'- the Leal." —Mr Catrau followed with the )' Sentinel," which was rendered in his usual first class style.—-Mrs Payne sang '\ Erin, my country," and received an encore.— Mr C. McLiver appeared to advantage in the " Sexton," and was loudly applauded. —Mr Fricker then sang in a very excellent manner " The Anchor's weighed."— This brought the concert to a close.

Mr W. J. Poulgrain proposed that hearty votes of thanks be accorded to the ladies who had kindly provided the trays and assisted during the evening ; also the choir for their services, and the many friends for their presence that evening. The vote was carried by acclamation.

After singing the " National Anthem," the room was cleared for dancing, which was kept up with great zeal till early this morning.
