NEW NORTH DEVON.

The mine manager's report is as follows :—" 70 feet level: On account of stoppage and other circumstances, but little work has been carried on in the drive east. Stoping is still being carried on in the stopes east and west of winze, with good payable results and every appearance of a continuation. _ Winze: Good progress, is been made in sinking winze from 70 feet to 160 feet level. The reef still maintains its original size and appearance, showing gold when broken down. Battery : During the past month there have been 14Q loads of quartz crushed for the return of 2500zs UQdwts melted gold. This I consider^a very satisfactory return. Judging from the present appearance of the reef, I would be led to expect as good a return for the present month. Should it meet with your approval, I purpose shortly starting to carry on the drive in the 160 ft level, so as to connect with the winze now being sunk in the 70ffc levelV This can be done either by contract or: wages, as you miaj: direct. I also purpose! starting a winaer^rom the Whatt level-to the 70ft levelisttOOft east of the last winie sunk from, Jald level. This would fee somewhere about where Mr Mellhaaey procured good gold, and would be in the right direction for the future ventilation of the 70ft level, as well as opening up a good length of stopes, which I believe weuld prove remunerative.—-I have, &c, John Wilcok.
