OHINEMURI.

(PBOJC OFB OWN COBBESPONDBNT.)! 7 January 26,1881. At the annual meeting of householders of this district, held for the purpose of receiving the report of the outgoing committee, and for the election of a schhol. committee for the ensuing year, a very important subject was referred to, namely —what will we do with our boys who are growing up beyond school age without any prospect of lucrative employment? The report suggested the founding in the district of an Agricultural School, and if this receives the support which it.deserves from the Thames, the* Government might gi*e 500 acres of the Ohinemuri lands a3 an endowment for r _the purpose of assisting the object.} -

TO BTOPPLT A WANT. The Eev. JD. Bruce, the ; deservedly respected agent of the Presbyterian Church, paid this district a visit oujMqu-, day, en route for Te Aroha. On returning yesterday evening he administered the rites of baptism to two infants, and afterwards presided over a meeting of members and adherents of the Church, held in the hall at 8 p.m."; "when ifc was resolved that, having . heard the statement of the agent of/jjje Church, measures be taken (or seef&ing services in connection with the I Presbyterian Church in this and adjacent districts. For this purpose those present formed themselves into a committee, with power to add to their number. Messrs P. Austin and J. M. Eobson were chosen chairman and .secretary respectively, and were also appointed a committee to secure , a church site. On the motion of Mr Littlejohn, a very hearty vote of thankg was accorded the Eev D. Bruce for.the trouble he had taken in coming to the district, in acknowledging which Mr Bruce explained that the great extent of. his district prevented hig coming sooner! He had intended being.' here earlier, but now he trusted the good work would receive support. From what he had seen of this and the Te Aroha district and had heard of Waitekauri and Owharoa, he felt confident that a minister ought to be appointed to this district. He would take the earliest opportunity of laying the claims of the district before the committee of the Presbytery, when; he bad no doubt an appointment would at once be made.
