BENDIGO UNITED.
In reference to the collapse in the Whau level by the contractors, reported lathis morning's Advertiser, the manager (Mr T. Radford) informs me that it is a very trifling affiair, and what might occur at any time in ground of the same nature, and he hopes to have the level clear for the passage of air by to-morrow morning Had the other air passages been looked after properly, no stoppage of work in the 70 feet level of the Devon mine need have occurred. The following telegram, sent to the directors of the New North Devon mine, will show the real state of affairs : —" There is no need of your mine being off work, as I got air into the mine this morning in half an hour through an old air passage that was used by the Columbia Company and Garvey, the tributer. The damage done to the' Whau level is very little."
