Waiotahi School Committee.

The annual election of a school committee for the Waiotahi district took place this afternoon in the Waio-Karaka School. Mr James McGowan was chosen Chairman. Mr MeGowan said as he was the retiring chairman of the out going Committee, he thought some one else should be appointed. I'he meeting expressed themselves unanimonsly in favour of Mr McGowan taking the chair, which In: agreed to do. The Chairman regretted that there were so few of the householders present, as it was a matter of the greatest importance that there should be a good attendance. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. BEPOET. The report stated that everything in connection with the working of the schools was working satisfactorily. It eulogised the manner in which the Waiotahi Creek Schuol was conducted by Mr A. Colhoun and his staffof teachers. Mr Colhoun had been appointed permanent head teacher. It also mentioned that the Board had reduced the amount for necessary expenses—a proceeding which would necessitate the utmost economy in future.

The following was the balance sheet:—

Income: Balance in Back and in hand, Ist January, 1880, £i BPs Id. Grants from Board Fund —(1.) Capitation allowance to 30th September, 1880, £103 7a.; (2) Ordinary Grant from Ist, October, 1880, £22 10s. (3.) Special Grant—For buildiug wall Waiotahi Creek School, £1J 10s. Total, £173 13s Id.

Expenditure: Cleaning schools and outbuildings, £S1 13s lOd; fuel for school uee, £7 8s; water supply and apparatus, £13 15s 8d • repairs to buildings or furniture, £i ols lid ; furniture (including carriage of furniture), £8 2s 9d ; expenditure of special grants and donations, £19 10s; salary of clerk or treasurer, £12; printing and advertising, £3 7a ; stationery, £2 O3 5d ; miscellaneous, £3 16a; total expenditure, £171 15s 7d; balance in bank and in hand to 3lsf. December, 1880, £117s 6d. Total, £17313s Id.

The balance-sheet and report were received and adopted, on the motion of Mr Ma^on seconded by Mr Mennie.

Mr Mennie proposed, and it was seconded, that a vote of thanks be accorded the outgoing Committee, and was carried unanimously.

. The following gentleman were elected a school committee for the ensuing year :— Messrs J. McGowan, Wm. McCullough, E. Burra, T. Eawdon, J. Pinlay, H. C. Lawlor, W. D. Keid.
