A Good Suggestion.

In an article in another column we refer to , the necessity that exists for keeping the drains in proper condition. Noxious odours are emitted from the intake between the railway embankment and .the Beach road, which are neither desirable or pleasant to the inhabitants. A suggestion has been made ■'-■■ to the Borough Council by Mr E. W. Hollis that the water from large drain running down Richmond street should be turned into that portion of the intake between that street and (Sealey street. Jf this were done the gravel and mullock carried down by the water would soon remedy the evil. This is an excellent suggestion, and we should advise the Borough to act upon it at once. Asa proof that it would be of service, we may mention that during the time that Messrs O'Brien and Thompson were completing the culvert at the place mentioned, the water was turned in, and not less than fifty tons of fine gravel was deposited opposite the residences of Mr Wilson, Mr Hollis, aud others. It* was by observing this fact that suggested the

idea to Mr Hollis. Again, on the other side, the Karaka Creek might be diverted, and so assist in filling up other portions of the intake. These suggestions should be acted upon at once.
