RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT

THIS DAY. (Before John Brown and H. C. Lawlor, Esqs, J.P.'s. LABCBNY.

Henry Wharton was charged with the larceny of one clock, two spoons, two suits of clothes,^ and a variety of other articles, value £8 6s 3d, the property of John Leydon, at the Thames within ths last six months.

Prisoner pleaded not guilty. The Court adjouriied the case till Monday.

Another charge of obtaining a watc^i value £6 10s Od from Andrew Cookson by false representation was preferred against the prisoner.

Andrew Cookson said the prisoner came to him aud wished to buy a watch. He promised to pay for the same in three weeks, saying that the wages he was receiving from Mr Leydon would enable him to pay for it in that time. In consequence of this representation, he let the prisoner have the , watch. Prisoner pawned the watch at Mrs Rae's. -

Sergeant- Major O'Grady said he would ask the Bench to allow the case to be withdrawn, as it was not so serious as he had at first supposed.

The case was dismissed, and the watch ordered to be returned to Mr Oookson.

William Smith was charged with maliciously breaking a water-pipe, value £5, the property^ of the Borough of Thames.

This case was remanded until Monday The .Court then adjourned.
