Mr Edward Preston, author of "Unclaimed money," "writes as follows:— Lovers of the curious may like to note the following remarkable "windfall" oases of recent date:—£soo,ooo to Sir Henry Havelock, from his cousin, in consideration of Sir Henry (among other things) adding the name of Allan to hia surname ; £60,000 to be equally divided between the Life Boat -Institution and the Hoyal Free Hospital, from an old miser, who for many years lived in a atate of utter misery at Hounslow; £65 000 to the British Museum; this " windfall" has long been looked for; it was bequeathed by a barrister- in 1802, subject to his widow's life interest therein, the lady survived her husband fifty seven years ; £8000 to executors, by reason ©f the illegitimacy of an old lady of .Brighton she having given no directions as to the diiposal of the residue of her estate, and their being no next of kin to claim the same; IOO.OOOdoIs. to a policeman at, Woolwich, in consequence of the death of a sear relative in America; ISO.OOOf. to the poor of Paris, owing to a lottery prise winner failing'to come forward; *
