SOMETHING "FISHY."
A circumstance which has a very fishy odour about it has reached our ears, and, although we cannot give the names of the parties concerned, we can vouch for the accuracy of the facts :—A few days ago a young man was persuaded' to buy a claim of one man's ground for the sum of £18. The young fellow unsuspiciously walked into the, trap, the seller in the meantime leaving the district. The purchaser has since discovered that the claim is in dispute, the seller having pegged out illegally. Indeed we understand he admitfced that in marking out he had only inserted one peg, thinking that that was all that was required for one man's ground. It is probable that on finding his mistake he got out of his bad bargain, leaving the unfortunate buyer to bite his nails and pocket his chagrin.—Miner.
A meeting of the Waitoa members of Prospecting Association was held at;the Hot Springs Hotel on Tuesday afterii«ott. Present—Messrs Reuben Parr .(in the Chair), T. G. Sandes, J. B. Smith, J. Lavery, Casey^ColHns, and Gr. S. O'Halloran. Some discussion took place anent the Moonlight claim, which had been pegged out by the Association, it being eventually decided, on the motion of Mr Collins, to resign the right, title, and interest in the claim. The treasurer, Mr E. Parr, handed in his resignation in' consequence of pressure of business. Acceptance was postponed till the. nojct meeting, which will take! place to-daf at the Hot Springs Hotel, when it is pr<^, bable that a company for working the ground in the possession of the Association will -be formed, and mine and legal managers appointed.—Yesterday's Miner,
