REVIEW.
"The Thames Dibectoet foe 1881." We are pleased to hare the duty of re?iewing a work of this kind, the want of which has for the past been much felt,' and it oertainly reflects great credit on its originator as being a thoroughly useful and necessary publication. The work, besides containing the ordinary calendar for 1881, contains a rery large amount of information suitable for all classes; Those who make gardening a special hobby, will read with advantage the instructions which are given with the calendar for each month, as to the quantity of seed re* quired, and other necessary details. At the beginning of the work will be found a tabulated statement of the population of the Thames for the present year, and a most interesting account of the rise and progress of the Thames Goldfields appears towards the end of the volume. The Tarious Friendly and Masonic Societies are enumerated, while wharf dues, postal and telegraph charges, and mail time table for 1881 hare not heen forgqtteri. The amended regulations for the Hauraki gold mining distriot will also prove,of interest to the mining, fraternity. The volume concludes with " sailing directions for the Frith of Thames and a Directory. The book is neatly got up in 8 vo. size, and the printing is dear, and has been carefully attended to. It contains a hundred and twenty pages of closely set matter, besides the numerous advertisements, and is published at the low price of one shilling. The work is a most valuable one to Thames residents and should obtain a ready sale. It was printed at the Advertiser office, and is a oredifTfo the head of the typographical staff, Mr H. Newton. " <
