Waiotahi Creek School.

The prizes were distributed in the Waiotani school room this morning by Mrs Newell Phillips. There was a lar«e number of friends and relations present, and the children presented a very pretty spectacle. At the beginning of the year there were only 116 names on the roll, but, thanks to the excellent teaching of Mr A. Colhoun, Assisted by Mrs Osboldstone and the Misses Hamilton and A. Cleveland, the numbers have increased from 116 to 165, a fact which of itself testifies to the confidence placed in the. teachers by the parents. The following is the prize list:— Uppeb Division. sth Class.—Eosa ii arerfield, James Renwick, B. McNiece, P. Hennessy, E. Hill, and M. A Cummings. 4th Class.—Maegie Coutts, Kate Cooper, Jeanie Mclntyre, and Laetitia Walker.

3rd Claßß.—Lucy Greene, James Huff, William McKenna, Cecilia Bond, Nelly Brodie, and Emily Moore.

JUHIOB DIVISION

2nd Class.—Jannet Crosbie, Henrietta Cummings, M. A. McLaughlin, Eliza Clarke, Charles Barton, Jane Coutts. Ada Miller, Jane Boxall, Alex. Brodie, Edwin Boxall, and Eobert Wishart.

Ist Class.—Arthur Cummiogs, Bessie Huff, Maud Mason, and John Moore. Infants.—James Johnstone, Ellen Hennessy, Beatrice Haverfield, Ellen Hill, Emily Morwick, Mary Eobinson, and Duncan Cameron.

Besides these, there were two special prizes—one given by Mr Finlay, entitled "The History of the Sea," awarded to Adam McNiece for geography, and the other given by Miss Stanton (formerly on the staff of the school), which was awarded to Jane Coutts for the neatest exercise book. During the morning, the following programme was successfully carried out:—"The Old Black Cat," song, pupils; "jLove One Another," infants ; recitation, J. W. Bennick; duet, M. and H. Cummins; "Our New Zealand Home," pupils;" Home is the Best," pupils; "Farewell to Study," pupils; " God Save the Queen," pupils. A vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Newell Phillips brought the proceedings to a close.

WAio-Kue&a School. Th« prizes were distributed by his Worship the Mayor in the absence of the Mayoress, who had been invited to do so but who was prevented from doing so plough being absent from the Thames. Tne total number of boys and girls on the roll is 475, and the average attendance 350. The school room had been tastefully decorated with devices, ferns and flowers by the. teachers and elder scholars. There was a large attendance of parents and friends, among whom we noticed Messrs Wm McCullough, E. N. Smith of the Waiotahi School Committee, H. C. Lawlor, Colhoun and others. The examination papers, exercise books and drawings were laid out for inspection, and show a marked improvement on last year's work. Addresses were given by. the Mayor, Mr McCullough, and the Head Master (Mr G. Newell Phillips). During the afternoon the children sang " The Coral Insect," " Farewell to Study," and two songs by the infants. The following is the Pbizb List. Standard Vl—lst, Elizabeth Akers; 2nd, John J.
