Thh Primitive Methodist Sunday School held their anniversary services yesterday, but owing to the unfavorable state of the weather the attendance in the morning and afternoon was rather poor, but in the evening there was a large congregation. The Key. J. Long preached three very impressive sermons Special hymns were sung by the children in a very creditable manner, showing that a large amount of care had been taken in their production by their instructors. The anniversary soiree will be held to-morrow eveniug, when addresses will be given by the various ministers of the town and other friends. There will also be some recitations by the children.
The Sightascope opened in Brown street on Saturday evening, and a large number of people visited it. Portraits of the unfortunate young lady, Miss Dbbie, and her brutal murderer, Tuhi, are to be seen, and the views of the scene of the late Kelly capture are very good. Every visitor receives a prize of varying value, amongst those given on Saturday being a watch, clocks, cruets, and other articles of less value. The exhibition will again be open to-night.
At a meeting of shareholders in the Te Aroha No. 2 South claim at Te Aroha, held in the Warwick Arms Hotel on Saturday evening last, the following resolutions were unanimously agreed to :—" That the shareholders of the Aroha No. 2 Spilth claim form themselves into a company, under the Mining Companies Act, 1872, to be called the Aroha No. 2 South Goldmining Company (Limited)." -■" That the capital of the company be £8000, in 8000, shares of £1 each, nil paid up, and that 3000 shares be reserved for issue at some future time, to be determined upon at an extraordinary meeting of shareholders."—" That Mr D. E. Gellion be appointed legal manager to the company, and that he at once ba instructed to register the company." " That no call shall exceed sixpence per share, and that the first meeting shall take place in January.''—" That the following gentlemen be elected a board of directors, viz., Messrs Bichard Onyon, O. D. Grant, and William Bettis (Thames), James Halley (Cambridge), and William Sbera (Auckland); three to form a quorum." The articles of association were adopted seriatim. It was also resolved "That a call of £1 12s per full share be made towards defraying cost of survey, lease, and license." Mr R. Onyon was the Chairman, and the greatest interest in the formation of the new company was taken by all present.
On Saturday night two men clambered over the fence at the back of the Empire Hotel, and after doing some slight damage to the yard, purloined a quantity of meat and fish from it. The two " gentlemen" who committed the theft are well known to the proprietor of the hotel, and for their own sake we would advise them to keep clear, or they may shortly find themselves within the walls of Mount Eden.
