AUCKLAND.

':'.■.:■ This day. Mr G. M. Eeed writes contradicting emphatically the statement made in the. daily papers that he has arranged with the Loan and Mercantile Agency to take over the block of land at Poverty Bay for the special settlers. He says he has not had any transaction with any Loan Company in New Zealand, his arrangement with his special settlers precluding the necessity for any such arrangement. Steps are being taken to convene a public meeting in Auckland to discuss the question of Fatetere lands. The Mayor-elect gives a banquet next Wednesday. ■*■•
