Thames Harbour Board.
The ordinary meeting of the above body took place at the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. Mr Osborne presided, and there were also present Messrs Bagnall, J. Head, J. Leydon, and J. McGowan. HABBOTJR MASTER'S BEPOBT. The Harbour Master stated that the three outer buoys stood in most need of cleaning and painting. He had obtained the buoy which had so mysteriously disappeared from its place just above the Telegraph towers, and which was picked up by Captain Dal ton of the Te Aroha at Ohinemuri, by whom it was returned. The Harbour Master suggested that the Board should acknowledge the service of Capiuiu Daltou. During the late heavy "fresh" in the Eauaeranga, some damage was aone to the lamp post in the creek, by logs coming into contact therewith. The report further stated that
Curtis', or the Albert street wharf is in a most, shaky condition, three of the piles being "gone" at the bottom, and three sets of braces are required, besides two hundred feet of second class timber to make tt passable. The repairing of it could be done for £6. The report was adopted. TEN DEES. Tenders were opened for cleaning and painting the buoys, and that of Mr Schofield for £8 waa accepted. MOOBING CHAINS. The Harbour Master was instructed to obtain mooring chains for any buoys requiring them. THANES. I A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Curtis for the work done by him to the | Albert street wharf. PRESENTATION. It was proposed by the inhabitants of Ohinemuri to make a presentation to Captain Dalton, of the Te Aroha, who had been engaged on the river for the last twenty years. The Board was asked to contribute towards the presentation. It was decided that the Board could not do so officially, but .each member promised to give something towards the object. The Secretary was instructed to write a letter of thanks to Captain Dalton for returning the buoy. A letter was received from Mr J. A. Miller, asking payment of a small account of £25. Left to the secretary to deal with at earliest opportunity.
The accounts were ordered to be paid. The Secretary announced that two allotments had been let on the foreshore, one to Rowe and the other to McLiver at an annual rental of £6 13s 4d. Mr McGowan said that it was the desire,of Mr Casey to lay down rails on the wharf for the purpose of conveying coals to the Big Pump.—The matter was left in the hands of the Chairman, and Messrs Leydon and McGowan. THE CUSTOM HOUSE. The Chairman said it was his opinion that the Government should be applied to for rent of the Custom House and other buildings in connection therewith. ' It was decided to charge the Government £25 per annum for the use of the site occupied. -■ A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the business.
