London, November 20. The. final heat for,the American Hop Bitters prize of £1000 was rowed on the Thames to day, and resulted as follows :— Elias Layooek (Australian) ... 1 Wallace Bobs (American) ... 2 J. Hosmer (American) ... .... 3 Warren Smith (American) ... 4 Laycock, the Australian oarsman, has challenged Hanlan for the championship of the world. . LAYCOCK'S PERFORMANCES. Laycock's Australian performances are well known. He came first, into prominence by defeating Bush at the Bocky Mouth Begatta. He was twice matched against Trickett, and easily defeated by the champion on both occasions; but the latter succumbed to Layooek in a race for the champion belt, rowed at the Sydney Anniversary Begatta in January, 1879. He subsequently defeated Bush for £200 on the Paramatta Biver. Laycook went to Melbourne and secured the sculling championship of Victoria, and immediately afterwards left for; England. Laycock is now in his 35th year. Since he has been in England he has defeated Blaokham, champion of the Tvne in a match for £200, Hosmer (American) for £200, and Bielly (American) for £200. He was matched to row J, H. Hawdon for £200 on November 13, but as we hare never received the result, it must be inferred that Hawdon forfeited his deposit. . , ':.-. .' " -.' '.{
