Memorial to Sir A. Gordon.
To His Excellency Sib Abthub Gobdok, G.C.M.G., D.C.L., Governor of New Zealand, and iti dependencies, &c, Sec, &c.
Th« memorial of the undersigned delegated in that behalf, by a public meeting held at Thames on the fifteenth day of November, 1880, sheweth— That certain lands in the Provincial District of Auckland, known as the Fatetere Block or Slocks, containing 320,000 acres or thereabouts, hare been negotiated for by the Government of New Zealand, and about £14,003 paid thereon; that certain private parties have also advanced large sums contrary to law toward? the acquisition of the said block while the same was under proclamation; that it is contemplated-by the Govern* ment to remove the proclamation from the lands in question during the month of February 1881. The prayer of this memorial therefore is that ydur Excellency will be pleased to maintain the proclamation in force until after the meeting of Parliament, in conformity with the following- resolutions, passed at the aforesaid public meeting held at Thames, namely:—l. That a respectful address be presented to the Governor praying him to\ maintain the proclamation over the Patetere Block until after the meeting of Parliament. 2. That the following gentlemen, viz., Messrs McGowan, McCullough and Dr Eilgour, be a Committe to draw up the memorial to His Excellency the Governor, and that Sir George Grey, the senior member for the Thames District, be requested to present the same. ; ' (Signed,) Jambs McGowan, William McCtjlloitgh, James Kilgoub, Com* mittee. !
