WANGANUI.
Shooting of Moffatt.
This day.
News has just been received here that Moffatt, well known in connection with the powder case, was ordered off his land up the river, and on refusing, was deliberately shot by a natire.
Another report states:—A, report has reached town that Moffatt who lately served a term of imprisonment for gunpowder making has been shot in the Tuhua country. Moffatt was warned to return as the natives would not allow white men in their country, but he would not leave, and he was then shot. Tuhua is at the head of the river, and has never yet been prospected by white men, the natives always being averse to their presence.—Star.
