There was a large attendance' at the races to-day. His , Excellency the Marquis> of Normanby and party- were present. The weather was ?ery fine and warm. ' -
Flemington Stakes.—Monmouth, 1; Welcome Jack, 2; Topaz, 3; won by half a length< Twenty-three horses started. Time: lmin. 3fsees. It was a very fast race. * .
Mares' Produce Stakes.—Flaneur, 1: Progress, 2; Mullatto, 8. . Won comfort ably by a length. Time: 2mins. llfsecs, Six horses started. '
V.E.C. Handicap:—Mata, 1; Pontiff, 2; Secundus, 3. Woo by half a length. Mata was the favorite in this race with New Zealanders, who backed him freely Time, three minutes, six and three quarter seconds.
Mr Gaunson, solicitor, presented a petition to day to the Government, praying that a reprieve may be granted to Ned Kelly, sentenced to death.
A procession with the same object was abandoned.
Numerous petitions are being signed for presentation to the Executive Council.
