NAPIER.

This day.

A fire broke out at half past twelve last night in a cottage at the top end of Hastings street, opposite Swan's brewery. The flames communicated with the buildings on either side. Owing to the drainage works cutting up the road, the steam fire engine was delayed, and the manual engine, though scon on the spot, was unable to keep the fire down. Three dwellings, occupied by Bedstone, Cole, and Davidson, were destroyed. The insurances are all in the Union: —On .Redstone's, £200; on Cole's, £250 on his workshop, and £25 on his tools. David; son's policy had lapsed.
