The London Chartered Bank of Aus tralia has declared a dividend of 5 per cent for the half year.
In view of the continued disturbed state of Ireland, the Government has decided to send further drafts of troops to the unsettled districts, to make, a large increase in the Irish constabulary; and and the enrolment of 2000 additional men for that force has been commenced.

In. consequence of the increase of socialism in many parts of Germany, and in Hamburg particularly, the Government has placed that city in a state of seige as against socialists resident there.
Constantinople, October 30.
Dervish Pasha, who was recently ordered to proceed to Dulcigno with three battallibns of Turkish troops, has been instructed by the Porte to arrest and deport all the Albanians who show an obstinate determination to resist the cession of Dulcigno.
London, October 28.
The Her. S. P. Dale, rector of the Church of St. Yedast, Foster Lane, Cheapside, London, who some time ago was inhibited for ritualistic praotices, has now been sentenced, to imprisonment for contempt of the decision of the Ecclesiastical Court.
A hurricane of a very serious character wai experienced at Dublin to-day;. the storm raged for some time, and the wind blew with such force that several houses were unroofed and suffered other damage. There was no loss of life, although many casualties of a serious nature oocured.
Persistent reports are being published in various English and Continental journals that the Czar of Russia is afflicted with paralysis. No authentio news on the subjeot has, however, yet been received.
Constantinople, Oct. 29.
News has been received that a messenger despatched to Dulcigpo by Kiza Pasha, the Commander of the Turkish forces, has been murdered.. The fact is attributed to disaffected Albanians.
Capetown, October 29.
BASUTO LAND.
Telegrams , have been received announcing that a tribe of Pondoi have risen against the British and have mnr« dered two English magistrates. Farther intelligence is also to hand regarding the
war in Basuto Land. The Cape Rifles, under Carrington, have taken the village lietherodi, and the most powerful Basuto chief, after a desperate defence. Continuous fighting is proceeding with large bodies of the enemy at different points.
