On the initiation of the idea of forming the Hauraki Pumping Association, it was only proposed to pump from the No. 3 lerel of the Caledonian shaft, and the scale of contribationa was based on the monthly cost of pumping from that depth. From the refusal of the Borough Council to contribute unless pumping is main* tamed from the 400 feet level, and other reasons, the Pumping Company are now ' considering a new scale of contributions, to enable them to carry out the wishes of the Council. As nothing definite has yefc been arrived at we refrain from comment but simply give the new scale as set forth in the Company's circular:—

The present ecai^of contribution is as follows :— Kuranui Hill United ... £ 40 per month Old Caledonian ... 30 „ Moanatairi 60 „ Waiotahi ... ... 25 „ Southern Cross... ... 20 „ New Golden Crown ... 10 „ Old Golden Calf ... 15 „ Cure ... ... ... 15 „ £215
