WHANGAREI.
This day.
A party numbering 30 went by the Waitaki on the invitation of Mr Bennett to inspect the Kamo mine and fish for Waipukas at the Hen and Chickens. Great regret was felt that owing to illness Mr Bennett was unable to accompany the party. They were, how?" ever, met by Lanigan, contractor for the line, Alderton, and other Whangarei residents. On landing at seven this morning a train was ready to conrey ihem to Eamo, where a capital breakfast was served at Davis' Hotel. Black and Kerr shewed them over the mines. General surprise was expressed at the extent of the workings. Fifteen hundred fee) drives are opened up, and the mines are able to deliver six hundred tona a day. After visiting the mine and the soda water springs, and drinking the healths of Messrs Bennett, Thomas Morrin, and Lanigan, with success to Kamo in bumpers of champagne, the party returned to the steamer, and have nowembarked for a fishing excursion at the Hen and Chickens. Everything passed off splendidly, the weather being fine, and all enjoying themselves thoroughly. They expect to reach town very early on Sunday morning. '
