NAPIER.

This day.

A monster petition is being got up praying that Government will cancel the recent order in Council appointing the Jockey Club's Committee members of the Domain Board for the old race course reserve. For years the reserve has been in the hands of the Jockey Club, and has not been used for public recreation. From the constitution newly created by the Board it is feared the town will lose what in other hands would be a valuable park. The greatest indignation is expressed at the advice which actuated Government in the matter. The petition prays that the reserve be vested in cooperation. The Napier Herald says the whole thing is a squabble between the Racing Club and the Jockey Club. The Telegraph contradicts, and says the next elections for Napier will hinge on this reward the town has received for supporting Government.
