In another column we give the principal evidence in the investigation before the Hokitika R. M. Court of the charge against David Hutchisou, who is accused of murdering his wife and infant child by burning them to death. The particulars of the fearful death of the unfortunate mother and offspring are doubtless fresh on the minds of our readers, but when it is realised that the husband and father is the author of iheir destruction the affair becomes more' horrifying. Fortunately this species of crime is of rare occurrence in th!s part of the world, and should the prisoner be found guilty, we can hardly conceive any punishment severe enough for such a monster in human shape. The evidence of his guilt though purely circumstantial is exceedings strongly.
