Beuteb's telegrams today inform us that some dissatisfaction is being occa sioned in the old country through the foreign policy of the Gladstone administration, who are apparently strongly tinctured with the views of the "Peace at any price" party, To such a pitch had this feeling of discontent risen that meetings were called in various centres to protest against some of the recent actions of the Ministry, including, no doubt, the abandonment of Candahar— probably the key^of Central Asia. These meetings, we are told were not successful but they serve to show that those who who were acousfcjmed to the foreign policy of Beaconsfield are already disgusted with Gladstone's vacillation. Nothing but vigorous, decided action will enable Britain to keep her prestige in Asia, especially when opposed, almost openly by Russia.
