The inquiry re the Susanne Godf'roy was concluded on the sixth. The Marine Board severely censured the Captain of the Government tug Ajax for contradictory evidence, and in not proceeding to the assistance of the vessel. It blamed Pilot Melville for his hesitation in proceeding with the lifeboat. Concerning the loss of the ship, the Board attribute it entirely to her unseaworthy condition and total unfitness to meet the ordinary dangers of the sea. At the coroner's inquiry re the death of Edmonson the jury were undecided. The evidence was most conflicting. Advices from the Bermagin Goldfields are conflicting, but it is evident the proved ground is altogether insufficient to support the number already there.
Reports of rich finds in a particular claim at Temora continue. The field continues to languish for want of water. Numbers are leaving, unable to hold out; but belief in the permanency and ultimate profitableness of the field continues. A crowded meeting at the Masonic Hall passed resolutions that the action re the Supreme Court Judge's case of contempt by the Evening News is calcu lated" 5 seriously to endanger the liberties of the subject; also to open subscription lists with a view to the reimbursement of fine and costs. The absence of a majority of leading citizens and city members occasioned comment.
