(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)
Sib, —What is the meaning of the local in this morning's Advertiser concerning the proposed nomination of Cr Carpenter as County Chairman? Does that gentleman desire to acquire the position of both Mayor and County Chairman, or is it only a ruse on the part of the astute editor of tLe Advertiser to eboke off Mr parpenter from his intention of contesting the Mayoralty. Having heard that Wilkinson has his eye on the May&al cabbage, I surmise that the latter supposition is a correct one, and W. W. hangs the Chairmanship before Carpenter's eyes like a bunch of carrots before a donkey. The little game is too transparent, and I trust Mr Carpenter will come out and join the Borough Council with the district he at present represents in the County Council, —I am, &c, Loyal Brooms,
