AN ENQUIRING BATEPAYER.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)
Sib,—ls it true that our virtuous Borough Councillors are lending them.: selves to a job* Is it true that the, Municipal Turncock was allowed to pot* ! chase a water-engine with public funds to work a lathe for his own private emolument? Is it also true that Laurie, Rattray, and others out of Borough material and at the W/ater Supply workshop have recently been manufacturing blocks of concrete, for a private contract in connection with the grave of a Maori chief of rank 1 It is true that these facts are known and winked at and glossed over by such men as Messrs Speight, Bawden, Mennie, and Marshall who are members of the water committee.—l am, Ac,
A Bubchess.
